Clarkton School of Discovery exploded for 21 runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to defeat Tar Heel 27-7 in Bladen Five Middle School Conference baseball action Tuesday at Clarkton.

The Panthers had jumped in front 5-0 in the top of the first, before the huge Blue Devil rally in the bottom of the inning. Clarkton tacked on 6 more runs in the bottom of the second.

Greyson Heustess and winning pitcher Spencer Scott both batted 3-4 to lead the 14-hit Blue Devil attack. Heustess slammed 2 doubles in the game.

Pierce Melvin ripped a double and a single and finished a perfect 2-2 at the plate for Clarkton. Teammate Jake Evans smacked 2 hits in 4 at-bats.

Dan Tatum, Shy Pone and Cody Butler all batted a perfect 1-1 for the Blue Devils, and teammate Holden Clark finished 1-3 at the plate.

Emonta Smith batted a perfect 2-2 to lead the Panther hitters. Teammates Derrick Long, Ryan Taylor and Demetrius McKoy cracked one hit each for Tar Heel.

The Blue Devils improved to 3-0 in the Bladen Five and 6-0 overall. Clarkton will play at Bladenboro Thursday at 4 p.m.
