BLADENBORO – Nyquan Richardson scored the winning run in the top of the tenth inning as Clarkton School of Discovery edged Bladenboro 4-3 Thursday in Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball action.

Richardson reached base on an error in the top of the tenth inning, and Parker Greene laced a single to centerfield as Richardson scored the go-ahead run.

Cee Jai Batten, Aidan Russ and Michael Young connected for hits in the bottom of the tenth, but Clarkton pitcher Lee Barnes struck out two batters to pick up the save.

The Bulldogs scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning. Young ripped a single to leftfield, Wadeyn Norris walked, and Aaron Wren reached base on an error. All three of them scored to put Bladenboro up 3-0.

Garrett Dunham lined a single to left to lead-off the Clarkton sixth inning and scored the first Blue Devil run.

The Blue Devils tied the game in the seventh. Tragen McCullum hammered a triple to left field and scored. Masion Brooks slammed a single to left, and Dunham and Richardson cracked singles as Brooks scored the tying run.

Dunham and Greene both batted 2-5 to lead the Clarkton hitters. McCullum slugged the triple, and Brooks and Richardson added one hit each. Dunham, Richardson, McCullum and Brooks scored one run each.

Young batted 4-5 with a double and scored a run to lead the Bulldog hitters. Russ, Wren, Will Durden and Batten contributed one hit each. Norris and Wren scored runs.

Richardson pitched the first 4 innings for the Blue Devils and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out four. Jake Futrell worked 5 scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win striking out 7 and allowing 2 hits.

Young started on the mound for the Bulldogs and pitched 2 scoreless innings allowing a hit and striking out three. Cade Allen pitched 6 innings of relief and gave up 3 runs on 5 hits and a walk while striking out four. Durden pitched the final 2 innings and allowed a hit, a walk and a run while striking out three.

Coach Robert Mazur’s Blue Devils will host Hallsboro Monday, while Bladenboro will entertain Whiteville Central.
