BLADENBORO- Victor Campbell and Will Hester scored runs in the top of the sixth inning to lift Clarkton School of Discovery to a 7-6 victory over Bladenboro Thursday in Bladen Five Middle School Conference baseball action.

Bladenboro took a 6-5 lead into the top of the sixth, but Campbell drew a lead-off walk and Hester reached on an error. Both runners came around to score.

The Blue Devils grabbed a 3-0 first inning lead as Ayden Piland and Jacob Priest drew walks to begin the game. J. T. Junious cracked a single that scored Piland, and Campbell connected for a single that brought home Priest and Junious.

Bladenboro loaded the bases in the bottom of the first on walks to Elijah Crabtree, Bryley Williams and Brycen Blackmon. Devon Strange’s fielder’s choice scored Crabtree and trimmed the lead to 3-1.

Weston Hodge belted a single in the CSD second, and Piland hammered a triple to right-centerfield that scored Hodge. Priest’s ground ball plated Piland for a 5-1 Clarkton lead.

Blackmon and Alex Strange drew walks in the Bulldog third inning. ShyRon Adams reached base on an error. Andrew Pait and Wadeyn Norris drew walks that scored Blackmon and Alex Strange and closed the gap to 5-3.

The Bulldogs rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Pait led off with a single, and Aaron Wren slammed a double. Williams delivered a single that scored Pait, and Blackmon knocked in Wren with a single for a 6-5 lead.

Piland batted 2-2 with a triple, a double, 2 runs scored and a run batted in to lead Clarkton. Junious, Campbell and Hodge added one hit each. Priest, Junious, Campbell, Hester and Hodge scored one run each. Campbell drove in 2 runs, and Priest and Junious had one rbi each.

Junious pitched a 4-hitter but was plagued by ten walks while striking out nine to pick up the victory.

Wren doubled and scored a run to lead the Bladenboro hitters. Williams, Blackmon and Pait added one hit each. Pait, Norris, Williams and Blackmon had one rbi each, and Crabtree, Blackmon, Alex Strange, Adams, Pait and Wren scored runs.

Adams pitched a complete game and struck out 8, while allowing 5 hits and 4 walks.

“It was a great game,” said Bulldog Coach Jerry Strange. “These kids played with all their heart. It was awesome. Two sixth-graders – Wadeyn Norris and Aaron Wren – played. Aaron’s double was his first hit of the year. I am so proud of this little man.”

Clarkton completed their season with a 4-2 record. Bladenboro will host Elizabethtown Monday.
