ELIZABETHTOWN – Coleman Tatum pitched a no-hitter and struck out ten batters to lead undefeated Elizabethtown to an 11-1 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Whiteville Central.

The lone Whiteville run came in the fourth inning on a walk and a pair of throwing errors. Coleman Tatum walked only two batters in the game.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Zamar Lewis slammed a double to left-centerfield and scored when Chase Knight smacked a single to rightfield.

Evan Pait drew a lead-off walk in the Cougar third inning and sprinted home when Garrison Tatum slugged a double to left-centerfield. Hunter Smith knocked in Garrison Tatum with a double, and Weston Hatcher walked.

Hunter Elks yanked a single to left that scored Smith. Knight smashed a double to right-centerfield that scored Hatcher and Elks and boosted the Elizabethtown lead to 6-0.

Coleman Tatum walked, and Garrison Tatum reached base on an error that scored Coleman Tatum in the Cougar fourth inning. Smith followed with a single, and Hatcher drove in Garrison Tatum with a single. Elks raked a single to left that scored Smith. Lewis belted a single to left that scored Hatcher for a 10-1 lead.

Coleman Tatum walked, stole second base in the Cougar fifth and raced home on Garrison Tatum’s hit to end the game on the mercy rule.

Knight batted 2-3 with a double and 3 runs batted in, and Smith finished 2-3 at the plate with a double, an rbi and 2 runs scored. Lewis batted 2-3 with a double, an rbi and a run scored. Elks finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 rbi’s and a run scored.

Garrison Tatum batted 2-4 with a double, 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Hatcher had a hit, an rbi and 2 runs scored. Coleman Tatum scored twice, and Pait scored one run.

Coach Larry Williams’ Cougars improved to 7-0 and now have a one game lead over Central in the Waccamaw AAA Division. The Cougars will travel to Harrells Christian Academy Monday.
