TAR HEEL – Coleman Tatum and Hunter Smith combined to pitch a 2-hitter and strike-out 14 batters as Elizabethtown defeated Tar Heel 13-2 Thursday in Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball action.

Coleman Tatum struck out eleven and allowed 2 hits and one run in his four innings of work. Smith relieved and struck out the side in the fifth inning but allowed a run on a walk and a hit batter.

The Cougars exploded for ten runs in the first inning. Evan Pait led off with a single, Coleman Tatum walked, and Garrison Tatum slammed a double. Smith cracked a single, Hunter Elks was hit by a pitch and Zamar Lewis and Chase Knight drew walks. All of them scored.

Nathan Howell beat out a bunt single, and Evan Pait and Smith sandwiched doubles around a Coleman Tatum walk. Howell, Pait and Coleman Tatum scored.

Elizabethtown tacked on 3 runs in the third inning. Pait hammered a double, and Coleman Tatum walloped a triple to drive him in. Garrison Tatum walked, and Elks swatted a single. Coleman and Garrison Tatum both scored for a 13-0 lead.

Jordan Bryan clobbered a double with 2 out in the Panther fourth inning, and Purnell Hooper knocked in Logan Stegall, the courtesy runner for Bryan with a single.

Mason Jones walked and Stegall was hit by a pitch in the Tar Heel fourth inning. Jones raced home with the second Panther run.

Pait batted 3-4 with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored for the Cougars. Coleman Tatum tripled and scored 3 runs. Smith finished 2-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Garrison Tatum doubled and scored twice. Weston Hatcher, Elks and Howell added one hit each, and Elks, Lewis, Knight and Howell scored runs.

Bryan doubled, and Hooper singled and drove in a run to lead Tar Heel. Jones and Stegall scored runs. I’Keir Murchison started on the mound for the Panthers.

Elizabethtown will travel to Williams Township Monday, while Tar Heel will visit Nakina.
