WHITEVILLE – Hunter Smith and Chase Knight combined to pitch a 2-hitter and strike-out 11 batters as Elizabethtown defeated Williams Township 13-0 Monday in Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball action.

Smith struck out 8 batters and allowed two hits and no walks in his 4 innings on the mound. Knight struck out the side in a 1-2-3 fifth inning.

Coleman Tatum drew a one-out walk in the Cougar first inning and Garrison Tatum walloped a double. Smith, Weston Hatcher and Hunter Elks drew walks. Coleman and Garrison Tatum both scored runs for a 2-0 lead.

Coleman Tatum, Garrison Tatum, Smith, Hatcher, Elks and Zamar Lewis drew consecutive walks to begin the Elizabethtown third inning. Knight smacked a single, and Nathan Howell and Evan Pait slammed back-to-back doubles. Coleman Tatum, Garrison Tatum, Smith, Hatcher, Elks, Lewis, Howell and Pait scored runs to grow the Cougar lead to 10-0.

Elks and Knight sandwiched singles around a walk to Lewis in the fourth inning, and Elks scored to pad the lead to 11-0.

Pait smashed a double to start the Cougar fifth inning, and Garrison Tatum hammered a triple. Both Pait and Garrison Tatum scored to boost the lead to 13-0.

Garrison Tatum batted 2-3 with a double, a triple and 3 runs scored to lead the Cougar hitters. Knight finished 2-3 at the plate. Pait batted 2-4 with a pair of doubles and 2 runs scored. Howell doubled and scored a run. Elks singled and scored 3 runs. Coleman Tatum scored twice, and Smith, Hatcher and Lewis scored one run each.

Coach Larry Williams’ Cougars improved to 3-0 and will travel to Whiteville Central Thursday.
