ELIZABETHTOWN – Elizabethtown exploded for 9 runs in the third inning to snap a 3-3 tie and propel the Cougars to a 14-3 non-conference middle school baseball victory over Harrells Christian Academy Tuesday.

E. Moore and C. Morris drew walks, and Carson Gooden and Wilbur Ward belted singles as the Crusaders scored two runs in the first inning. Moore and Gooden scored the runs.

Evan Pait led off the Cougar first inning with a single, and Garrison Tatum and Weston Hatcher smacked singles as Elizabethtown tied the game 2-2. Pait and Garrison Tatum scored the runs.

Nathan Howell started the Elizabethtown second inning with a single, stole a base and eventually scored to edge the Cougars ahead 3-2.

Tyler Johnson slammed a double in the Crusader third inning, stole third and dashed home with the run that pulled Harrells even 3-3.

Hunter Elks walked to begin the Cougar third, and Zamar Lewis and Chase Knight smashed singles. Howell walloped a double, and Pait and Coleman Tatum swatted singles.

Garrison Tatum walked, Hunter Smith laced a single, and Hatcher slugged a double. Elks, Lewis, Knight, Howell, Pait, Coleman Tatum, Garrison Tatum, Smith and Hatcher all scored to boost the lead to 12-3.

Pait ripped a fourth inning single, and Garrison Tatum blasted a double. Both Pait and Garrison Tatum scored runs to boost the lead to 14-3.

Pait batted 3-4 and scored 3 runs. Garrison Tatum finished 2-2 at the plate with a double and 3 runs scored. Hatcher batted 2-3 with a double and a run scored.

Howell finished 2-3 at the plate with a double and 2 runs scored. Coleman Tatum, Smith, Lewis and Knight added one hit each. Coleman Tatum, Smith, Elks, Lewis and Knight scored runs.

Smith pitched 2-plus innings for the Cougars and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out four. Coleman Tatum pitched 3 scoreless innings of 2-hit relief, striking out eight and walking three.

Johnson batted 2-3 with a double and a run scored to lead the Crusader hitters. Spell was also 2-3 at the plate. Gooden and Ward contributed one hit each, and Gooden and Moore scored runs. Ward started on the mound for Harrells.

Coach Larry Williams’ Cougars improved to 5-0 on the season and will travel to Nakina Thursday.
