NAKINA – Coleman Tatum pitched a 3-hitter and struck out 11 batters to lead Elizabethtown to a 14-1 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Nakina Thursday.

Tatum walked only one batter and allowed a single run on two hits in the second inning.

Coleman Tatum drew a one-out walk in the Cougar first inning, and his brother, Garrison Tatum, knocked him in with a double. Chase Knight drew a walk in the second inning and stole a base, and Nathan Howell belted a single that scored Knight for a 2-0 lead.

After the Mustangs scored in the home second, Elizabethtown broke the game open with 6 runs in the third inning. Hunter Smith, Weston Hatcher and Hunter Elks cracked consecutive singles to start the inning.

Knight and Howell smacked singles, and Evan Pait, Coleman Tatum, Garrison Tatum and Hunter Smith drew walks. Hunter Smith, Hatcher, Elks, Knight, Howell and Coleman Tatum scored runs as the lead grew to 8-1.

A. Horne, J. Smith and Pait belted singles to start the Cougar fourth inning. Coleman and Garrison Tatum reached base, and Hunter Smith hammered a double to right-centerfield. Horne, J. Smith, Pait, Coleman Tatum and Garrison Tatum scored runs to stretch the lead to 13-1.

K. Autry reached base in the fifth inning and scored the final Cougar run.

Howell batted 2-2 with a run scored to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Hunter Smith finished 2-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Garrison Tatum doubled and scored a run. Pait, Hatcher, Elks, Knight, Horne and J. Smith contributed one hit each.

Coleman Tatum scored 3 runs, and Knight scored twice. Pait, Hatcher, Elks, Autry, Horne and J. Smith scored one run each.

Coach Larry Williams’ Cougars remained unbeaten with a 6-0 record and will host Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday.
