CLARKTON – Zach Meares and Freddie Wooten combined to pitch a one-hitter and strike out 12 batters as Elizabethtown defeated Clarkton School of Discovery 16-0 Tuesday in Bladen Five Middle School Conference baseball action.
Meares started and pitched 2 no-hit innings for the Cougars striking out six batters to pick up the win. Wooten relieved and worked the final 3 innings on the mound, striking out six and allowing one hit.
Jay McKoy, Ty Mathis and Chase Starkloff belted 2 hits each to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Andrew Cahn connected for the only Blue Devil hit.
Coach Tripp Lancaster’s Cougars improved to 4-0 in the Bladen Five and will travel to Tar Heel Thursday. Clarkton is now 3-2 and will visit Bladenboro Thursday.
