TAR HEEL – Coleman Tatum pitched a no-hitter and struck out 15 batters to lead Elizabethtown to a 5-0 victory over Bladenboro Tuesday in the opening round of the Bladen County Middle School Baseball Tournament.

Coleman Tatum issued 6 walks in the game in a pitching duel with Bladenboro’s Michael Young who pitched a 5-hitter and struck out 13 batters. Young was plagued by 7 walks.

All five Cougar runs came in the second inning. Hunter Elks cracked a lead-off single, and Zamar Lewis and Chase Knight drew walks. Evan Pait reached base on an error as Elks and Lewis scored. Coleman Tatum walloped a triple to right-centerfield that scored Knight and Pait. Garrison Tatum’s fielder’s choice scored Coleman Tatum with the fifth run.

Elks batted 3-3 with a double and a run scored to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Coleman Tatum slugged the 2-run triple and scored a run. Pait singled, scored a run and drove in a run. Lewis and Knight scored one run each.

Coach Larry Williams’ Cougars remain undefeated with an 11-0 record and will play Clarkton School of Discovery in Thursday’s tournament championship game.
