HALLSBORO – A 7-run fourth inning propelled Hallsboro to an 12-1 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory Thursday over Clarkton School of Discovery.

C. J. Waddell walked, stole second and scored on George Nance’s sacrifice bunt to put the Tigers ahead 1-0 in the second inning.

Lafon Monroe walked, stole second and raced to third base as Nyquan Richardson reached base on an error in the Blue Devils third inning. Monroe stole home to tie the game on the back end of a double steal with Richardson.

Bobby Barsh led off the Hallsboro third inning with a single, stole second and eventually scored the go-ahead run on a balk for a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers pulled away with 7 runs in the fourth inning on 7 walks, a hit and an error to stretch their lead to 9-1 then closed the game out with 3 runs in the fifth inning.

Richardson and Ja’nathan Johnson connected for one hit each for the Blue Devils. Monroe scored the run.

Junior Stewart cracked a 2-run single and scored a run for Hallsboro. Barsh had the other Tiger hit and scored twice.

Trajen McCullum pitched 3.1 innings for Clarkton and allowed 7 runs – 6 earned – on 5 walks and a hit while striking out two. Johnson relieved and pitched an inning giving up 4 runs – 3 earned – on a hit and 5 walks while striking out one. Lee Barnes struck out two and allowed an unearned run in his 0.1 innings.

Aaron Mitchell started and pitched 4 innings for the Tigers allowing an unearned run on one hit and 5 walks while striking out seven. Lawson struck out two in his one inning of relief for Hallsboro.

Clarkton will host Tar Heel Monday.
