BLADENBORO – A 7-run fifth inning by Nakina snapped a 4-4 tie and propelled the Mustangs to a 12-6 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Bladenboro Monday.

A walk, an error and a 2-out error produced a pair of Nakina runs in the first inning.

Andre Moore drew a walk to begin the Bulldog first, and Aiden Russ belted a single. Michael Young knocked in Moore with a single. Will Durden reached base on a fielder’s choice, and Chandler Russ smacked a single as Russ scored the tying run.

Stephen Matheson led off the Bladenboro second with a single, and Moore and Aiden Russ drew walks. Young ripped a single that scored Matheson and Moore to put the Bulldogs on top 4-2.

An error and a single led to a Mustang run in the third inning, and two Nakina hits helped plate the tying run in the fourth inning.

The Mustangs scored seven runs in the fifth on four hits, two errors and a walk to take an 11-4 lead. An error in the sixth inning tacked on another Nakina run.

Moore walked with one out in the Bulldog sixth and scooted home when Russ laced a single to right-centerfield. Young reached base on an error as Russ scored to trim the margin to 12-6.

Young batted 3-4 with a double and 3 runs batted in. Aiden Russ finished 2-3 at the plate with an rbi and 2 runs scored. Chandler Russ, Aaron Wren and Matheson added one hit each. Moore walked 3 times and scored 3 runs. Matheson scored a run.

Young struck out seven batters in his 4 innings on the mound for the Bulldogs. Durden and Moore pitched in relief.

Bladenboro will host Hallsboro Thursday.
