NAKINA – Nakina overcame a 5-3 deficit to defeat Tar Heel 9-6 Monday in Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball action.

The Mustangs turned a pair of walks into two first inning runs and an error helped grow the lead to 3-0 in the second inning.

Pitcher Mason Jones drew a walk, and Coleman Page cracked a single to begin the Panther third inning. Jordan Underwood was hit by a pitch, Destin Montgomery belted a single, and Jordan Bryan ripped a single to leftfield.

Purnell Hooper smashed a single, and I’keir Murchison hammered a double. Jones, Page, Underwood, Montgomery and Bryan scored runs as Tar Heel took a 5-3 lead.

The Mustangs rallied with 2 hits, an error and a walk to tie the game 5-5 in the bottom of the third. A single and a throwing error edged Nakina ahead 6-5 in the fourth. Three hits and an error plated 3 runs in the Mustang fifth inning.

Underwood walked to start the sixth inning, Montgomery reached base on an error, and Bryan smacked a single as Underwood scored to whittle the lead to 9-6.

Murchison batted 2-3 with a double, and Bryan finished 2-3 at the plate with a run scored to lead the Panther hitters. Montgomery, Hooper, and Coleman Page added one hit each. Underwood scored twice, and Montgomery, Jones and Coleman Page scored one run each.

Tar Heel will travel to Bladenboro Thursday.
