TAR HEEL – Destin Montgomery pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11 batters to lead Tar Heel to a 12-2 Bladen Five Middle School Conference baseball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday.
Montgomery only walked 2 batters in the game.

Lafon Monroe reached base on an error and dashed home when Nazire Smith belted a single to left field for  an early 1-0 Clarkton lead, but the Panthers answered with 3 runs in the home first.

Zackery Williams and Montgomery started the Panther first inning with singles, and both scored as Antonio Candelaria reached base on an error. Candelaria later scored for a 3-1 Tar Heel lead.

Nyquan Richardson walked and raced home when Smith’s single to left field was misplayed to trim the margin to 3-2.

Montgomery lined a single to right-centerfield to start the Panther third inning. Jordan Bryan reached base on an error, and Alex Brisson belted a single to leftfield that scored Montgomery and Bryan.

Tucker Carroll reached base on an error that scored Brisson, and an error on Jordan Underwood’s grounder allowed Carroll to score and boost the Tar Heel lead to 7-2.

Tar Heel closed out the game with 5 runs in the fifth inning. Brisson smashed a double to left-centerfield. Carroll reached base on an error that scored Brisson, and Todd Richardson walked. Underwood reached base on a passed third strike.

Riley Stanley ripped a single to left that scored Carroll and Richardson. Andrew Sessoms knocked in Underwood with a single to rightfield, and Montgomery ended the game on the ten run-rule by driving in Stanley with a single.

Montgomery batted 3-5 with a run batted in and 2 runs scored to lead the Panthers at the plate. Brisson finished 2-3 at the plate with a double, 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Williams, Candelaria, Sessoms, Carroll and Stanley collected one hit each for Tar Heel.

Carroll scored 2 runs, and Stanley, Underwood, Richardson, Bryan, Candelaria, Sessoms and Williams scored one run each. Stanley drove in 2 runs.

Richardson and Lafon Monroe scored the Clarkton runs. Smith batted 2-2 to lead the Blue Devil hitters. Lee Barnes started on the mound for Clarkton.
