BLADENBORO – Tar Heel exploded for 6 first-inning runs and claimed their first victory of the season Tuesday with a 9-6 Bladen Five Middle School Conference baseball victory over Bladenboro.

Jordan Underwood and Austin May drew walks to begin the Panther first inning. Kendall Johnson-Pone smacked a single that scored Underwood, and Antonio Candeleria hammered a triple that scored May and Pone.

Jadicus Register belted a single that scored Candeleria, and Alex Brisson reached base on an error as Register scored. Riley Stanley’s sacrifice bunt advanced Brisson who scored on an error for a 6-0 Tar Heel lead.

Five consecutive walks produced two runs in the Bulldog first inning. Elijah Crabtree, Alex Strange, Brycen Blackmon, ShyRon Adams and Bryley Williams all walked. Crabtree and Alex Strange scored runs that were forced home by Adams and Williams.

Candeleria cracked a single in the Panther second inning and scored when Brisson delivered a single to pad the lead to 7-2.

Johnson-Pone laced a single in the Panther third, and Candeleria and Register drew walks. Brisson’s fielder’s choice scored Johnson-Pone, and Candeleria dashed home on a wild pitch to stretch the lead to 9-2.

In the bottom of the inning, Blackmon walked and Devon Strange swatted a single that scored Blackmon. After Josh Russ was hit by a pitch, Cameron Flowers knocked in Strange and Russ and trimmed the Tar Heel lead to 9-5.

Flowers and Crabtree connected for singles in the Bulldog fifth inning, and an error on Alex Strange’s grounder plated Flowers with the final run.

Johnson-Pone batted 3-4 with a run batted in and 2 runs scored. Candeleria finished a perfect 2-2 at the plate with a triple, 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Register and Brisson added one hit each.

Underwood, May, Register and Brisson scored one run each. Brisson drove in 2 runs, and Register had an rbi.

Flowers batted 2-3 with 2 rbi’s and a run scored. Crabtree, Williams and Devon Strange contributed one hit each to the Bulldog attack. Devon Strange, Crabtree, Alex Strange, Blackmon and Russ scored one run each. Adams, Williams and Devon Strange had one rbi each.
