Middle School Baseball: Whiteville Central 10, Clarkton School of Discovery 5
WHITEVILLE – Whiteville Central grabbed an early 7-0 lead en route to a 10-5 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday.

The Hornets bunched 3 hits and an error to score 3 runs in the first inning. Central capitalized on 3 errors, 2 hits and 2 walks to tack on 4 more runs in the second inning and push their lead to 7-0.

Tragen McCullum led off the Blue Devil third with a single to right, and Nyquan Richardson smoked a single to centerfield. Parker Greene swatted a single to rightfield that scored McCullum and Richardson and trimmed the margin to 7-2.

Central turned a hit, a walk and an error into 2 more runs in the home third to boost their lead to 9-2.

Ja’Nathan Johnson pulled a single past third in the fourth inning. McCullum walked, and Lafon Monroe drove in Johnson with a single. McCullum and Monroe both advanced on a passed ball, and Richardson knocked in McCullum and Monroe with a single to centerfield that closed the gap to 9-5.

Central scored a fifth inning run on a walk, 2 stolen bases and an infield out.

Richardson batted 2-3 with 2 runs batted in and a run scored. Greene, Garrett Dunham, Johnson, McCullum and Monroe connected for one hit each. Greene drove in 2 runs, and Monroe had an rbi. McCullum scored twice, and Monroe and Johnson scored one run each.

McCullum pitched the first 3 innings for the Blue Devils and allowed 9 runs – two earned – on 6 hits and 5 walks while striking out three. Richardson pitched 2 hitless innings of relief and gave up a run on one walk while striking out four.
