Adonis Avery tossed in 13 points to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 45-28 Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over visiting Tar Heel Middle School Wednesday night.

Clarkton used a pressing defense to grab a quick lead on inside baskets from Drew Harris and Seven Campbell.  Greyson Heustess and Shy Pone combined for three more baskets to extend the lead.

Adonis Avery and Pierce Melvin added a combined 11 points on three pointers and drives to the basket to give Clarkton a 22-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Clarkton was able to maintain their lead with five points from Avery and two free throws from Harris during the second period to take a 29-9 lead into halftime.

Clarkton got inside baskets by Avery, Heustess, and Campbell early in the third period.  Harris added a free throw, and Pone nailed a three pointer to stretch the lead to 39-17 after the third quarter.

Tar Heel cut into the Clarkton lead but late baskets by Avery and Campbell combined with two free throws by Melvin sealed the victory.

Jaheim Lesane led the Tar Heel scoring with 11 points, and teammate Irvin Hernandez followed with 6 points.

Clarkton improves to 7-0 on the season and will travel to East Arcadia Thursday. Tar Heel concludes their regular season with a 3-5 record.
