CLARKTON – Clarkton School of Discovery raced to a 20-0 first quarter lead en route to a 46-9 Bladen Five Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Tar Heel.
Khadijah Jones fired in 4 baskets and 2 free throws to lead the first quarter Clarkton spurt. Teammate Mariah Smith threw in 2 baskets and a free throw. Lily Lin and Lauren Bowen added a basket each, and Lauryn Williams hit a free throw.
Bowen, Smith and Lin threw in baskets in the second quarter as the Lady Blue Devil lead grew to 26-2. Shelby Pharr broke the scoring ice for Tar Heel with a basket.
Jones tossed in a trio of baskets in the third period, and Lin netted another basket that stretched the Clarkton lead to 34-7. Pharr nailed a 3-point shot for the Lady Panthers, and teammate Shaunessy McMillan delivered a basket.
Six different Lady Blue Devils – Lin, Jones, Bowen, Williams, Maegan Burney and AnnaGrey Heustess -scored a basket each in the final period. N. Lewis connected for the final Lady Panther basket.
Jones topped all scorers with 18 points. Smith followed with 7 points, and Lin and Bowen finished with 6 points each for Clarkton.
Pharr led the Tar Heel scoring with 5 points. The Lady Panthers will host Bladenboro Thursday.
