Elizabethtown Boys 44, Tar Heel 9

Elizabethtown closed out the first half with an 11-1 spurt, then pulled away for a 44-9 Bladen Five Middle School Conference victory at Tar Heel Tuesday night.

Joshua McKoy started the game with a rebound basket, and Keshaun Davis stole the ball and pitched ahead to Anthony Wooten for a lay-up and a 4-0 Elizabethtown lead.

Shemaiah Leak sank 4 of 5 free throws to pull Tar Heel even at 4-4. Jordan Payton answered with an 8-foot runner to put the Cougars ahead to stay. Corey McKoy drained a 3-point shot, and Payton added a free throw for a 10-4 Elizabethtown lead at the quarter break.

Leak and Elizabethtown’s James Higgins traded rebound baskets to begin the second period. Tyre Boykin banked in a runner to trim the Cougar lead to 12-8 with 4:55 left in the half.

Payton canned 2 foul shots, and Wooten banked in a 3-pointer from the left of the key. Higgins connected from the baseline, and center Devon Lesane hooked in a 6-footer.

Jaheim Lesane interrupted the run with a free throw for the Panthers, but Lesane muscled in a rebound to give the Cougars a 23-9 halftime lead.

Elizabethtown’s Majuan McKoy flipped in a runner, then stole the ball and raced for a lay-up. Payton added a lay-up in the third period as the lead grew to 29-9.

Allen Owens drove for a lay-up, powered in a rebound and drilled a 3-pointer from the corner to lead the Cougar scoring in the final period. Payton scored on a follow shot, Davis turned a steal into a lay-up, and Corey McKoy banked in a 10-footer.

Payton led the Cougars with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Owens followed with 7 points, Wooten finished with 6 points, and Corey McKoy tallied 5 points. Lesane grabbed 5 rebounds.

Leak sparked the Panther attack with 6 points and 6 rebounds.
