TAR HEEL – Gary Parker fired in 12 points Tuesday night to lead Bladenboro’s Bulldogs to a 41-23 boys basketball victory over Tar Heel in the Bladen Five Middle School Conference opener for both teams.
The teams battled to a 6-6 tie in the first period. Parker tossed in a basket for the Bulldogs, and teammates Anthony Mitchell and Deonte Lacy sank 2 free throws each.
Lacine Soumanoro pumped in a basket and a free throw for the Panthers in the quarter. Teammate Antonio Candelaria popped in a basket, and Larry Council made a free throw to keep the score tied.
Parker nailed a 3-point shot and hit 2 free throws to key a 10-3 Bulldog run in the second period. Bryley Williams and Landon Stanley threw in a basket each, and Jude Stanley netted a free throw to put Bladenboro up 16-9 at halftime.
Soumanoro contributed a basket in the quarter for Tar Heel, and Candelaria canned a free throw.
Six different Bulldogs – Williams, Lacy, Brycen Blackmon, Ricky Brisson, Michael Young and Walter Bealon – scored a basket each in the third quarter as Bladenboro stretched the margin to 28-13.
Anthony Cowan flipped in a basket and a free throw for the Panthers in the third quarter, and Soumanoro added a free throw.
Parker hurled in a basket and hit 3 free throws in the final period for the Bulldogs. Landon Stanley buried a 3-point shot, Mitchell and Lacey contributed a basket each, and Mitchell tacked on a free throw.
Candelaria and Cowan dropped in 2 baskets each for the Panthers in the final period, and Serimon Washington chipped in with a basket.
Lacy followed Parker on the Bulldog scoring list with 6 points, and Landon Stanley and Mitchell totaled 5 points each.
Cowan and Candelaria shared scoring honors for Tar Heel with 7 points each, and Soumanoro finished with 6 points each.
