Tray Ballard poured in 25 points to lead Bladenboro’s Bulldogs to a 49-38 Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over visiting Tar Heel Thursday night.
Shy’Ron Adams ignited the Bulldog offense with 2 baskets and a trio of foul shots in the first quarter. Ballard sank a basket and 2 foul shots, and Da’Shawn Hines added a basket as Bladenboro grabbed a 13-3 lead. Kendall Johnson made a Tar Heel basket, and teammate Tyre Boykin hit a free throw.
Boykin rallied the Panthers in the second period with 4 baskets and a trio of free throws. Ballard knocked in 4 free throws and 2 baskets for Bladenboro in the quarter, and guard Logan West buried a 3-point shot to keep the Bulldogs up 24-14.
Ballard drained a 3-point shot and hit another basket and a free throw in the third period. Adams nailed a 3-point shot and 2 free throws, and West delivered a 3-point shot. A Hines basket stretched the Bulldog lead to 40-25.
Shemaish Leak threw in a trio of baskets, and Kendall Johnson tossed in 2 more buckets for Tar Heel in the quarter. Boykin tacked on a free throw.
Boykin connected for 3 more baskets and a free throw in the final period. Leak pumped in 2 more baskets for the Panthers, and Kai Belle added a bucket.
Three more baskets and a free throw by Ballard kept Bladenboro on top. Adams had the other Bulldog basket in the period and finished with 14 points for the winners. West totaled 6 points, and Hines had 4.
Boykin topped the Tar Heel scoring with 20 points, and Leak followed with 10 points. Johnson contributed 6 points.
Bladenboro improves to 4-2 in the league and will travel to Elizabethtown Tuesday. Tar Heel will go to Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday.
