Javant McDowell and Tashuan Berkeley combined for 22 points to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 32-29 Bladen Five Middle School Boys Basketball victory at Tar Heel Tuesday night.

McDowell topped the Clarkton scoring list with 14 points, and Berkeley followed with 8 points.

Tyre Boykin fired in a game-high 20 points for Tar Heel, and teammate Jadicus Register pumped in 9 points for the Panthers who only dressed six players for the game.

Boykin drained a pair of 3-point shots in the first period, and Register added a basket and a free throw as the Panthers took an early 9-5 lead. McDowell worked the paint for a pair of CSD baskets in the quarter.

The Panthers stretched their lead to 20-14 by halftime. Boykin drilled in another 3-pointer and tossed in a pair of baskets and 2 foul shots. Register contributed another Tar Heel basket in the period.

McDowell threw in 5 points in the second period for CSD, and Berkeley and Xavier McKoy added a basket each.

A 13-4 third quarter spurt vaulted Clarkton in front 27-24. McDowell and Berkeley dropped in 4 points each in the quarter, and teammates Garrett Melvin and Jake Evans chipped in with a basket each. Register tallied all 4 Tar Heel points in the period.

Baskets by Lawson Hester and Berkeley kept Clarkton on top in the final quarter. Boykin buried another 3-point shot and tacked on another basket for Tar Heel in the period.

Clarkton remains unbeaten in Bladen Five play at 3-0 and will host Elizabethtown Thursday. The Panthers will travel to East Arcadia Thursday.
