CLARKTON – Nazire Smith scored 5 of his game-high 18 points in the second overtime as Clarkton School of Discovery pulled out a 44-41 boys basketball victory over Bladenboro Thursday night in Bladen Five Middle School Conference action.

Smith sank a basket and made 3 of 6 free throws in the second overtime. Teammate Sam Inscoe tossed in a basket, and Travail Baldwin and Lee Barnes hit foul shots as the Blue Devils outscored Bladenboro 9-6 in the period.

Anthony Mitchell nailed a 3-point shot and connected on 3 of 4 free throws as he scored all of the Bulldog points in the final overtime.

Smith drained a 3-point shot, another basket and a free throw as the Blue Devils jumped in front 10-6 to start the game. Center Lamont Pridgen and Samaj Dove added first quarter baskets for CSD.

Gary Parker and Jaylen Newkirk pumped in first period baskets, and Brycen Blackmon cashed in two free throws for the Bulldogs.

Baldwin flipped in a basket, Anthony McGill hit 2 free throws, and Smith and Robert McKoy made a free throw each for Clarkton in the second period.

Blackmon and Bryley Williams tossed in second quarter baskets, and Gary Parker hit a free throw to keep the Bulldogs within 16-11 at halftime.

Pridgen powered in two baskets and a free throw in the third quarter, and McGill threw in two baskets to keep the Blue Devils up 25-21.

Williams fired in two baskets in the third period, Parker sank 2 free throws and a basket, and center Deonte Lacy powered in a basket.

Lacy banged in two baskets in the final quarter to spark a 10-6 Bulldog rally. Blackmon connected on a trio of free throws, Parker made a free throw, and Mitchell netted a basket.

McGill bombed in a 3-point shot for the Blue Devils, and Smith dropped in a basket and a free throw to keep Clarkton even at 31-31.

Smith buried a 3-point shot in the first overtime, and Barnes hit a free throw for the Blue Devils. Newkirk nailed a basket in the overtime for Bladenboro, and Lacy and Mitchell hit free throws to even the count 35-35 and force another overtime.

McGill finished with 9 points to follow Smith on the Blue Devil scoring list, and Pridgen followed with 7 points.

Mitchell topped the Bulldog scoring with 9 points, and Parker followed with 8 points. Blackmon and Lacy totaled 7 points each, and Williams finished with 6 points.

The Blue Devil victory left the two teams tied for second-place in the Bladen Five with identical 5-3 records. The Blue Devils and Bulldogs split their two games this season and both games went into double overtime.
