TAR HEEL – Nyquan Richardson and Corey Robbins combined for 29 points Monday night to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 45-39 Waccamaw Middle School boys basketball victory over Tar Heel.

Richardson poured in 17 points to lead the Blue Devil offense, and Robbins followed with 12 points. Samaj Dove finished with 6 points, and Lee Barnes added 5 points.

Kearean Ballard topped all scorers with 18 points for the Panthers. Aquani Hilton pumped in 10 points, and Ahmir Stepps tallied 5 points.

Richardson blistered the nets with a pair of 3-point shots and another basket in the opening period. Robbins dropped in a basket, and Barnes netted a free throw as the Blue Devils built an 11-6 lead.

Jordan Underwood and Stepps popped in Panther baskets in the first quarter, and Ballard tacked on a free throw.

Robbins drilled in a 3-point shot and sank 5 straight free throws in the second period. Richardson flipped in a pair of baskets, and Dove hit 2 free throws to keep the CSD lead at 25-17.

Ballard lit up the scoreboard with a 3-point basket, two more baskets and a pair of free throws in the second quarter. Ikeir Murchison threw in a basket, and Stepps canned a free throw.

Dove nailed a pair of baskets in the third period, Richardson buried a 3-point shot, and Lafon Monroe tossed in a basket and a free throw. Barnes contributed a basket to keep the Blue Devils up 39-29.

Hilton rallied the Panthers with a trio of baskets, Ballard delivered a pair of baskets, and Stepps cashed in 2 free throws.

Ballard netted 2 more baskets in the final quarter, Hilton knocked down a 2-point shot and a pair of free throws. Underwood chipped in with a basket to trim the margin to six points. Robbins popped in a basket, and Richardson and Barnes connected on 2 free throws each for the Blue Devils.

Coach Robert Mazur’s Blue Devils improved to 3-6 with the victory and are slated to host Tar Heel on Feb. 7. The Panthers, now 2-6, will host Nakina Tuesday.
