CLARKTON – Nazire Smith and Lamont Pridgen combined for 30 points Thursday night to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 47-23 boys basketball victory over Tar Heel in Bladen Five Middle School Conference action.
Smith nailed a 3-point shot in the opening quarter, and teammates Nyquan Richardson and Anthony McGill dropped in baskets as the Blue Devils jumped in front 7-4.
Center Lancine Soumanoro powered in a basket, and Antonio Candelaria sank 2 free throws for Tar Heel in the quarter.
Smith sparked an 18-5 Clarkton second quarter run with two baskets and four free throws. Pridgen muscled in a pair of baskets, and teammates Nyquan Richardson, Samaj Dove and Robert McKoy threw in a basket each as the lead grew to 25-9.
Soumanoro and Gabriel Lara connected for Panther baskets in the second quarter, and Candelaria canned a free throw.
Smith drilled in another 3-point shot and another basket for the Blue Devils in the third period. Pridgen battled inside for two more baskets, and McGill netted a basket to push the lead to 36-18.
Soumanoro worked the paint for three baskets and a free throw in the third quarter, and Candelaria made 2 free throws.
Pridgen banged in two more baskets in the fourth quarter. Richardson, Smith and Travail Baldwin pumped in a basket each in the period.
Soumanoro netted two baskets and a free throw in the final quarter and topped the Tar Heel scoring with 16 points. Candelaria finished with 5 points.
Smith led all scorers with 18 points, and Pridgen followed with 12 points for the Blue Devils. Richardson finished with 6 points.
The Blue Devils improved to 4-2 with the victory.
