CLARKTON – Elizabethtown’s Cougars raced to an 11-2 first quarter lead en route to a 34-15 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Thursday night.

Malcolm Bolden keyed the early Cougar spurt with a 3-point bomb, another basket and a free throw. Jacob Nixon buried a 3-point shot, and Phillip McKiver popped in a basket. Lee Barnes sank 2 free throws for the only Clarkton points in the quarter.

Dominick Collins nailed a pair of 3-point shots in the second period as the Cougar lead grew to 17-5. Barnes tossed in a basket, and Corey Robbins canned a free throw for Clarkton.

Collins knocked down another 3-point shot, and Bolden drove for a basket and a free throw in the third period. A pair of Nixon free throws kept the Cougar lead at 25-14.

Nyquan Richardson rallied the Blue Devils with a 3-point shot. Samaj Dove and Robbins netted baskets, and Barnes cashed in 2 more free throws.

Nixon buried a 3-point shot, and Bolden, Cameron White and Zamar Lewis pumped in baskets in the final quarter. Shannon Hankins made a free throw for the only CSD point in the period.

Bolden led the Cougars with 11 points. Collins finished with 9 points, and Nixon followed with 8 points. Barnes topped the Blue Devil scoring with 6 points.

Coach Larry Williams’ Cougars improved to 7-1 and will travel to Nakina Monday. The Blue Devils, now 2-6, will visit Tar Heel Monday.
