TAR HEEL –Braylon Cromartie scored 6 of his game-high 12 points during a 14-0 4th quarter run that carried Elizabethtown to a 39-19 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Tar Heel Tuesday night.

The Cougars led 25-19 after 3 periods, before Cromartie rang up a trio of baskets, and teammate Tevin McLean buried a 3-point shot and a free throw. Torrean Cogdell dropped in a pair of baskets for Elizabethtown in the period.

Isaiah Lee followed Cromartie on the Elizabethtown scoring list with 7 points, and Ayden Williams followed with 6 points. Cogdell added 4 points. Tavion Smith matched Cromartie with 12 points for Tar Heel, and teammate Josiah Belle-Robinson finished with 7 points.

Lee sparked the Cougars to an early 10-7 lead with 2 baskets and a free throw. Cromartie bombed in a 3-ball, and John Monroe netted a basket. Tavion Smith burnt the nets with a trio of 1st quarter buckets for the Panthers, and Belle-Robinson canned a free throw.

Belle-Robinson nailed a 3-point shot in the 2nd period, and Tavion Smith delivered a pair of baskets. Cromartie, Lee and Sheldon Melvin answered with baskets for Elizabethtown, and Cromartie made a free throw to pad the Cougar lead to 17-14 at halftime.

Williams took charge in the 3rd quarter nailing a 3-point shot, another basket and a free throw. McLean supplied another Cougar basket as the margin grew to 25-19. Belle-Robinson hurled in another 3-point shot, and Tavion Smith delivered another  basket for Tar Heel.

Coach Larry Williams’ Cougars evened their record at 4-4 and will travel to Whiteville Central for a make-up game Wednesday. Tar Heel will close out their regular season at East Columbus Thursday.
