CLARKTON – C. J. Waddell sparked a 20-14 third period surge that carried Hallsboro to a 49-43 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Thursday night.

Waddell racked up 10 of his team-high 17 points in the third quarter as the Tigers built a 43-35 lead. Noah Hall drained a 3-point shot and another basket, Lee Barnes tossed in 2 baskets and a free throw, and center Rodney Lacewell muscled in 2 baskets to keep the Blue Devils close.

Barnes popped in 2 baskets in the final period, and Lacewell and Hall threw in a basket each. Jaquise Smith delivered a 3-point shot and another basket to keep the Tigers on top. Smith finished with 15 points in the game.

Barnes led all scorers with 19 points for Clarkton. Hall finished with 11 points, and Lacewell totaled 8 points.

The Blue Devils grabbed an early 13-11 lead as Barnes pumped in a trio of first period baskets. Ja’Nathan Johnson flipped in a basket and a free throw, Hall canned 2 free throws, and Lacewell powered in a basket.
Smith tallied 7 points in the second quarter as the Tigers jumped in front 23-21. Barnes netted 2 baskets in the period for CSD, and Hall and Matt Kemp added a basket each.

Coach Robert Mazur’s Blue Devils completed their season with a 5-3 league record and 7-3 overall mark.
