BLADENBORO – Daquan Cox pumped in 13 points Thursday night as Nakina held off Bladenboro 28-26 in Waccamaw Middle School boys basketball action.

Cox dropped in 5 points to spark the Mustangs to a 7-0 first quarter lead. Anthony Mitchell and Andre Moore bombed in 3-point shots, and Jabari Adams added a basket as the Bulldogs rallied to within 11-8 at halftime.

Moore and Mitchell threw in third-quarter baskets for the Bulldogs, but Cox netted a pair of baskets, and Isaac Ward drilled in a 3-point shot to pad the Nakina lead to 18-13 at the quarter break.

Gary Parker rallied the Bulldogs with a trio of baskets in the final quarter. Jabari Adams buried a 3-point shot and hit a free throw, and center Deonte Lacy sank 3 free throws, but Cox kept the Mustangs on top with a pair of baskets.

Jabari Adams led the Bulldog scoring with 7 points. Parker finished with 6 points, and Moore and Mitchell followed with 5 points each.

Ward totaled 7 points for Nakina, and C. Lee added 6 points.

The Bulldogs, now 4-3, will host Hallsboro Monday.
