CLARKTON – Andrew Todd and Daquan Cox combined for 23 points to lead Nakina to a 40-37 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday night.
Todd and Cox popped in 2 baskets each to lead the Mustangs to an early 13-10 lead. Noah Hall pumped in 2 baskets for the Blue Devils, and Rodney Lacewell and Blaine Pope drilled in a basket each. Teammate Lee Barnes cashed in 2 free throws.
Barnes threw in 2 baskets and a free throw in the second quarter, and Ja’Nathan Johnson dropped in a basket to keep the Blue Devils within 20-17 at halftime.
Barnes blistered the nets with a trio of 3-point shots in the third quarter, but Nakina still maintained a 31-26 lead. Barnes fired in a 3-point shot, another basket and 2 free throws in the final period. Hall and Lacewell contributed a basket each.
Todd led Nakina with 12 points, and Cox followed with11 points. Teammate Ethan Cullipher tallied 8 points. Barnes racked up 23 points to lead all scorers. Hall followed with 6 points, and Lacewell finished with 4 points.
The Blue Devils, now 5-2 in Waccamaw Division A play and 7-2 overall, will host Hallsboro Thursday.
