TAR HEEL – Khalil Lloyd poured in 20 points to lead Tar Heel’s Panthers to a 40-30 Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over East Arcadia Thursday.
Lloyd fired in a 3-point basket and another bucket, and center Kai Belle worked the paint for 2 baskets as Tar Heel took a 9-5 first quarter lead. Cody Long drained a 3-point shot for East Arcadia, and teammate Roderick Grainger added a basket.
Antonio Candelaria threw in a trio of baskets in the second quarter, and Lloyd tossed in 2 baskets as Tar Heel kept a 20-15 halftime lead. Grainger nailed a pair of 3-point shots for East Arcadia, and teammate Trevon Sowers sank one 3-ball.
Lloyd delivered a 3-point shot and another basket in the third period, and Belle and Damarius Robinson added a basket each as Tar Heel stretched their lead to 29-21. Long, Kari Price and Emanuel Lewis pumped in a basket each for East Arcadia.
East Arcadia rallied to within 29-26 in the fourth quarter as Grainger bombed in a 3-pointer and Long added a lay-up.
Lloyd buried a pair of 3-point shots, and Bell battled inside for a pair of baskets as Tar Heel pulled away with an 11-2 spurt. Price and Grainger made 2 free throws each in the final quarter for East Arcadia.
Belle finished with 10 points for Tar Heel, and Candeleria followed with 6 points. Grainger topped the East Arcadia scoring with 13 points, Long finished with 7 points, and Price netted 5 points.
