BLADENBORO – A 14-2 second quarter spurt propelled West Columbus to a 35-28 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Bladenboro Thursday night.

Hezekiah Adams threw in a basket and 2 free throws in the first quarter to keep the Bulldogs within 6-5. Teammate Aaron Lewis tossed in the only Bladenboro basket in the second period as a trio of Jaylen Bellamy baskets sparked West Columbus to a 20-7 halftime lead.

Center Chase Williams and Adams flipped in a basket and a free throw each in the third quarter, but the WC lead grew to 27-13. Williams worked the paint for a trio of baskets in the final quarter, and guard Landon Stanley fired in a trio of baskets during the Bulldogs 15-8 closing run. Cade Allen added a basket, and Adams sank a free throw.

Williams led the Bladenboro scoring with 9 points. Adams racked up 8 points, and Stanley finished with 7 points.  West Columbus’ Bellamy topped all scorers with 12 points, and Unique Kelly followed with 7 points.

The Bulldogs, now 1-1 in AA Division play and 2-1 overall, will host Tar Heel in the Bladen County Tournament Tuesday.
