EVERGREEN – West Columbus raced to an early 11-0 lead en route to a 41-30 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Elizabethtown Monday.

Dominick Collins rallied the Cougars by bombing in a trio of 3-point shots and a 2-point basket in the second quarter. Chace Butler tossed in a basket, and Darius Williamson dropped in a free throw as the Warrior lead was sliced to 21-14 at halftime.

Williamson powered in a basket that turned into a 3-point play in the third quarter, and J’Marius Smith popped in a basket as the Cougars closed the gap to 25-19. However, the Warriors pushed their lead back 33-19 at the quarter break.

Williamson worked the paint for 2 baskets and a free throw in the fourth period. Butler tossed in a basket and a free throw, and Jaylin Simmons nailed a 3-point shot.

Collins topped the Cougar scoring list with 11 points. Williamson followed with 9 points, and Butler finished with 7 points. Tristan Tubbs with 10 points, and Tony Jordan with 9 led the West Columbus scoring.

Elizabethtown, now 1-4 in AA Division play and 1-5 overall, will host Bladenboro Thursday.
