BLADENBORO – Amari Best sparked a 17-9 third period rally that propelled Whiteville Central to a 43-38 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Bladenboro Thursday night.

Best threw in 8 of his team-high 17 points in the quarter. Teammate Montrez Holland scored 6 of his 9 points in the second half.

Bladenboro’s Hezekiah Adams filled up the rim with 3 baskets and a free throw in the third quarter. Teammate Landon Stanley added a basket to keep the Bulldogs within 34-28.

Adams sank 3 free throws and a basket in the final period, and Stanley nailed a 3-point shot and another basket. Stanley poured in 20 points to lead all scorers, and Adams finished with 14 points.

Stanley drilled in a 3-point shot in the opening quarter, center Chase Williams dropped in a basket, and Andre Moore canned a free throw to keep the Bulldogs even 6-6 at the quarter break.

Stanley bombed in a pair of 3-point shots in the second quarter and tossed in a basket and 2 free throws. Adams cashed in 2 free throws, and Williams made one as the Bulldogs edged ahead 19-17 at halftime.

The Bulldogs, now 3-5 in Division AA play and 5-6 overall, will travel to Tar Heel Tuesday.
