ELIZABETHTOWN – Whiteville Central rode a balanced attack to a 51-28 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Elizabethtown Monday night.

McLean topped the Hornet scoring with 14 points. Rice followed with 11 points, Butler racked up 10 points, and Jones finished with 9 points.

A trio of buckets from McLean sparked Central to an early 12-7 lead. Isaiah Lee sank 2 free throws and a basket for Elizabethtown in the period. Ronnie Covington tossed in a basket, and Braylon Cromartie made a free throw.

Butler’s 5 points led a 13-4 Hornet run that grew the lead to 25-11 at halftime. Cromartie and Covington pumped in baskets for the Cougars in the period.

Lee and Tevin McLean drained a basket and a free throw each in the 3rd quarter for Elizabethtown, and Ayden Williams and Covington popped in a basket each to keep the margin at 38-21.

Tevin McLean bombed in a 3-point shot and another basket in the final quarter for the Cougars, and Covington dropped in a basket.  McLean and Covington shared scoring honors for Elizabethtown with 8 points each. Lee finished with 7 points.

Elizabethtown, now 3-3, will host Bladenboro Thursday.
