BLADENBORO – Bladenboro’s Bulldogs stayed in contention for the Waccamaw Middle School Conference Class ‘A’ boys’ soccer championship with their 2-0 victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday.

Coach Steve Thurman’s Bulldogs improved to 5-2 with the victory and will need a Clarkton victory over first-place Williams Township Thursday to claim a share of the title. Bladenboro also has to defeat Tabor City in their final game Wednesday.

Jonah Bryan dribbled to the net and banged in an unassisted goal midway the 1st half to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Diego Santos-Hernandez blasted a 30-yard shot that deflected off a defender and into the goal to pad the Bladenboro lead to 2-0.

Hunter Hester recorded the shutout in goal for the Bulldogs and was credited with 4 saves. Clarkton goalie Isaiah Robinson racked up 7 saves.

“Justin Spaulding really stood out for us,” said Bulldog Assistant Coach Otis Evans. “Justin played really well and made a lot of plays for us.”

The Tabor City at Bladenboro game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday.
