Garrett Melvin fired in 3 second-half goals as Clarkton School of Discovery rallied for a 5-2 victory Tuesday over Elizabethtown in Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys soccer action at County Park.
Victor Garcia’s goal gave Elizabethtown a 2-1 lead with 21 minutes left in the match, but eight minutes later Melvin dribbled through the Cougar backline to score the tying goal.
Two minutes later Melvin turned an assist from Joseph Massaid into the go-ahead goal and a 3-2 Blue Devil lead. With 9 minutes left to play Melvin blasted a penalty kick into the net for a 4-2 Clarkton lead.
Massaid knocked in a penalty kick for the final Blue Devil goal with 2 minutes left to play. Massaid finished with 2 goals and an assist.
Malcolm Bolden drilled in a goal from the right wing with 20 minutes left in the first half to give the Cougars the early lead.
Massaid pounded a shot into the upper right part of the net 7 minutes later off of an assist from Weston Hodge that tied the score 1-1.
The Blue Devils improved to 2-0, while Elizabethtown is now 1-1.
