ELIZABETHTOWN – Malcolm Bolden recorded a ‘Hat Trick’ of 3 goals Wednesday as Elizabethtown clinched the Waccamaw Middle School Conference’s AAA Division boys soccer championship with a 5-0 victory over Whiteville Central at County Park.

In the tenth minute of play, Bolden sent a pass to Jamie Delgado who knocked in the first Elizabethtown goal. Two minutes later Bolden booted in his first goal off of an assist from Zac Metz.

Three minutes later Bolden dribbled past several defenders and fired in his second goal to put the Cougars ahead 3-0. In the 19th minute, Chace Butler slammed in a goal off of an assist from Delgado to give Elizabethtown a 4-0 lead.

In the second half, Metz delivered another assist that Bolden turned into his third goal of the night.

“It was a great game for us, and we were able to get a lot of kids minutes tonight,” said Cougar Coach Jay Raynor. “There are a lot of unselfish players on this team who want what’s best for their teammate rather than themselves.”

Fernando Rebollar posted the shutout in goal for the Cougars and was credited with one save.

“Our eighth graders have done a tremendous job growing our younger guys,” continued Raynor. “I can honestly say we are a complete team. A couple of talented soccer players at positions with others who are new to the game but work extremely hard.”

Raynor added, “I thought we grew up and improved a lot during our short season. We learned a lot as well. We lost a good amount of eighth graders last year and were able to wrap up another championship and remained unbeaten for two years against the Bladen teams.”

“I’m very proud of the heart and discipline the guys exhibit,” concluded Coach Raynor. “They work hard, are easily coached, believe in each other and push each other to be better.”

Elizabethtown finished the season with a 7-1 record.
