TAR HEEL – Three different players scored Thursday as Tar Heel defeated Elizabethtown in a key Waccamaw Middle School Conference AA Division boys’ soccer contest.

Alejandro Lopez launched a deep goal from outside the box to open the Panther scoring. Teammate Amine Mahdi also connected from well out side the box to grow the halftime lead to 2-0.

Lopez delivered what Tar Heel Coach Brett Jackson called “a great pass” to Cristian Rodriguez who pounded it into the goal early in the 2nd half that padded the lead to 3-0. Wilvert Funez recorded the shutout in goal for the Panthers.

“Both teams played a very good game today,” said Jackson. “As always Elizabethtown played hard from start to finish. We were able to made a couple of long goals on offense and our defense was able to hold off their attacks.”

Jackson continued, “As a coach it’s always great to see a competitive match. I am extremely proud of my guys and the way they continue to play.”

Tar Heel remains unbeaten at 5-0 in Waccamaw AA play and 6-0 overall. The Panthers will travel to East Columbus Monday.

Elizabethtown is now 3-2 in Waccamaw AA action and 4-2 overall. The Cougars will host West Columbus Monday.
