TAR HEEL – Acme-Delco converted a key first down late in the game and went on to score the winning touchdown for a 22-18 Waccamaw Middle School Conference football victory over Tar Heel.

Leading 18-14 with 4 minutes left to play, the Tar Heel defense appeared to have the Delco quarterback stopped on a 4th and long play at the Trojan 15 yardline, but the ball got away, and Delco picked up the first down.

Bryan Lopez then galloped 50 yards for the deciding touchdown. K. J. Brown ran the 2-point conversion for a 22-18 lead.

The Trojans scored on their first possession of the game on an 8-yard keeper by quarterback Tanner Falk. Lopez carried into the end zone for the 2-point conversion and an 8-0 lead.

Tar Heel’s Messyah Whitted returned the Delco kick-off 75 yards for a Panther touchdown. The conversion failed but the Panthers had closed the gap to 8-6.

The Panthers recovered a Trojan fumble, and Whitted broke through the line and raced 50 yards for the touchdown that put Tar Heel ahead 12-8.

Jazion Brown caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Falk to put the Trojans in front 14-12 at halftime.

Another Delco turnover set up the Panther offense in the third quarter. Ke’Arean Ballard banged through the line and sprinted 34 yards for a touchdown that vaulted Tar Heel ahead 18-14.
