Da’Shawn Hines scored the tying touchdown and winning 2-point conversion as Bladenboro rallied from a 20-8 deficit to edge Clarkton School of Discovery 22-20 Thursday in their Bladen Five Middle School Conference football opener at Clarkton.

The Blue Devils drove 70 yards on their opening drive to take a 6-0 lead. Bladenboro lost a fumble to set Clarkton up again at the Bulldog 28 yard line. The Blue Devils turned the turnover into a touchdown and tacked on the conversion for a 14-0 lead.

Bladenboro responded as Hines banged through the line on an off-tackle play and galloped 65 yards for a touchdown. Hines carried into the end zone for the conversion to trim the margin to 14-8.

Clarkton answered with a scoring drive that stretched the margin back to 20-8, but Bladenboro quarterback ShyRon Adams circled left end on a naked bootleg and scooted 65 yards for the Bulldog touchdown that sliced the margin to 20-14 at halftime.

The teams traded fumbles in the third quarter, before Hines dashed 30 yards to tie the game, then barreled into the end zone for the decisive 2-point conversion.

Hines finished with 2 touchdowns and a pair of 2-point conversions to lead the Bladenboro offense. Adams scored the other Bulldog touchdown.

Bladenboro will host Tar Heel next Thursday, while Clarkton will travel to Elizabethtown.
