TAR HEEL – Bladenboro rallied from a 24-14 deficit with 30 unanswered points to claim a 44-24 Bladen Five Middle School Conference football victory over Tar Heel Tuesday night.

Antonio Candelaria scored the first Tar Heel touchdown with 7:07 left in the first quarter. Jayln Newkirk answered with a 20-yard touchdown run for Bladenboro at the 5:25 mark. The 2-point conversion run pushed the Bulldogs ahead 8-6.

Candelaria vaulted the Panthers back in front with a 15-yard touchdown run. With 3:11 on the clock Tar Heel led 12-8. Bladenboro took a 14-12 lead with 51 seconds remaining in the first period on a touchdown pass.

Candelaria dashed 60 yards for another Panther touchdown as Tar Heel went up 18-14. On the first play after Bladenboro fumbled at the Panther 15 yardline, Candelaria galloped 85 yards for his fourth touchdown of the game as Tar Heel took the 24-14 lead.

Bladenboro scored two touchdowns to go up 30-24 with 5:17 left in the third quarter. Another Newkirk touchdown run stretched the Bulldog lead to 38-24 after the 2-point conversion early in the final period. A 60-yard run ended the Bladenboro scoring.

It was the first win of the season for the Bulldogs.
