CLARKTON – Tabor City defeated Clarkton School of Discovery 34-14 Tuesday night in the Waccamaw Middle School Conference football opener for both teams.
Tabor City scored a trio of first quarter touchdowns to take an 18-0 lead aided by an onside kick recovery and a fumble return for a touchdown.
Masion Brooks ran for a first down during a 9-play Blue Devil scoring drive in the second period. Quarterback Lee Barnes kept the ball and scored the touchdown to trim the margin to 18-6.
The Red Devils padded their lead to 26-6 at halftime.
Ja’Nathan Johnson raced 45 yards for a Clarkton touchdown in the third quarter. Barnes ran for the 2-point conversion to close the gap to 26-14.
The Blue Devils will travel to Bladenboro next Tuesday.
