BLADENBORO – Mallory Bryan fired in 19 points Tuesday to lead Bladenboro to a 31-27 Waccamaw Middle School girls’ basketball victory over Elizabethtown.

Bryan drained a 3-point shot, a pair of 2-point baskets and a free throw in the first period. Teammate Brookee Singletary also dropped in a basket. Iveonna Ward threw in a trio of baskets for the Lady Cougars, and Laila Smith and Nia McKoy added a basket each to keep the teams even at 10-10.

Bryan pumped in a trio of baskets in the second quarter, Marlie Walters and Holland Davis popped in a basket each, and Singletary hit a free throw as the Lady Bulldogs built a 21-17 halftime lead. Zoe Smith nailed a 3-point shot, and Ward and Shabrea Geathers tossed in baskets for the Lady Cougars.

Davis and Bryan flipped in baskets in the third period as the Bladenboro lead grew to 25-19. Zoe Smith hurled in a basket for Elizabethtown.

Bryan kept the Lady Bulldogs in front with a basket and a free throw in the final quarter, and Davis bombed in a 3-point shot. Laila Smith rallied the Lady Cougars with a 3-point shot, another basket and a free throw. Ward also scored a basket in the period.

Davis followed Bryan with 7 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Ward led the Lady Eagles with 10 points, and Laila Smith finished with 8 points.

Coach Otis Evans’ Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-0 in league play and 4-2 overall and will host Tar Heel Thursday. It was the first loss of the season for the Lady Eagles who are now 1-1 in league play and 3-1 overall and will entertain Whiteville Central Thursday.
