CLARKTON – Maegan Burney threw in a pair of baskets during an 8-1 closing run that carried Clarkton School of Discovery to a 19-14 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Hallsboro Tuesday.

An 8-2 third-quarter spurt had pushed the Lady Tigers in front 13-11, but Burney’s two baskets and a trio of free throws by AnnaGrey Heustess rallied the Lady Blue Devils.

Heustess led the Clarkton scoring with 9 points, and Burney finished with 6 points.

MaKayla Dixon tossed in a first period basket, and Heustess and Burney sank free throws as Clarkton grabbed an early 4-0 lead. A trio of Heustess free throws kept the Lady Blue Devils on top 9-5 at halftime.

Coach Chris Callihan’s Lady Blue Devils improved to 3-1 on the season and will host Williams Thursday.
