CLARKTON – Clarkton School of Discovery edged Hallsboro 21-20 Thursday to claim a share of the Waccamaw Middle School Conference’s A Division girls basketball championship.

Coach Chris Callihan’s Lady Blue Devils improved to 7-1 in league play, while handing the Lady Tigers, also 7-1, their first A Division loss. CSD is 7-2 overall.

Mialanni McDowell tossed in a basket and a free throw as the Lady Blue Devils grabbed a 3-1 lead. Addie Bowen, Alaya White and Kaniyah Hairston threw in second quarter baskets as the first half ended in a 9-9 tie.

Shy’Asia Ratliff worked the paint for a basket and 2 free throws, and Alaya White pumped in a basket as Clarkton took a 15-11 third quarter lead. Ratliff sank 2 baskets and a free throw in the final period, and White canned a free throw.

Kaley Mitchell sparked a late Lady Tiger rally scoring 4 of her team-high 7 points in the period. Teammate Nowaeh Moore drained a 3-point shot in the quarter.

Ratliff topped all scorers with 9 points for the winners. White followed with 5 points.
