CLARKTON – Clarkton School of Discovery raced to an early 6-0 lead en route to a 25-21 girls basketball victory over Bladenboro in Bladen Five Middle School Conference action.
Mariah Smith and Maegan Burney threw in baskets, and AnnaGrey Heustess sank 2 free throws as the Lady Blue Devils grabbed the early 6-0 lead.
Smith sank two baskets and two free throws in the second quarter as the Lady Blue Devils grew their lead to 12-4 at halftime. Lainey Autry answered with a basket, and Rylee Chadwick made two free throws for the Lady Bulldogs.
Chadwick, Autry, Hannah Hester and Hannah Pait pumped in a basket each for Bladenboro in the third quarter, and Chadwick tacked on two free throws to trim the CSD lead to 20-14.
Heustess worked the paint for a pair of baskets for Clarkton in the third quarter, and Smith and Emma Turbeville added a basket each.
Turbeville rang up another basket in the final quarter, and Smith, Heustess and Burney hit free throws to keep Clarkton on top.
Grace West and Hannah Pait tossed in baskets for Bladenboro in the final period. Chadwick buried 2 foul shots, and Hester hit one.
Smith topped the Clarkton scoring with 11 points, and Heustess followed with 7 points. Turbeville added 4 points.
Chadwick led the Lady Bulldogs with 8 points, and Autry and Hannah Pait scored 4 points each.
Clarkton secured second-place in the Bladen Five with a 4-2 record.
