CLARKTON – Maegan Burney fired in 15 points Tuesday to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 26-13 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Bladenboro.
Shy’Asia Ratliff flipped in a basket and a free throw in the first quarter, and Addie Bowen threw in a basket as the Lady Blue Devils grabbed an early 6-2 lead. Rylee Chadwick tossed in the first Bladenboro basket.
Burney took charge in the second period with 2 baskets and 2 free throws. MaKayla Dixon added a basket as the Clarkton lead grew to 14-5. Mallory Bryan nailed a 3-point shot for the Lady Bulldogs in the quarter.
Karli Priest and Burney tossed in baskets for the Lady Blue Devils in the third period. Marlie Walters pumped in a basket for Bladenboro, and MaKayla Wright made a free throw to keep the visitors within 18-8 at the quarter break.
Burney kept Clarkton ahead with a trio of baskets in the final quarter, and teammates Ratliff and AnnaGrey Heustess tacked on free throws. Walters popped in a pair of baskets for Bladenboro, and Whitney McLean sank a free throw.
Walters led the Lady Bulldogs with 6 points, and Bryan finished with 3 points. Ratliff followed Burney on the Clarkton scoring list with 4 points.
Coach Chris Callihan’s Lady Blue Devils improved to 7-1 and will host Elizabethtown Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs, now 3-4, will host Nakina Thursday.
