CLARKTON – AnnaGrey Heustess fired in 19 points to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 36-9 girls basketball victory over Tar Heel in Bladen Five Middle School Conference action.

Heustess blistered the nets with four baskets and two free throws in the opening period as the Lady Blue Devils raced to a 12-2 lead. Mariah Smith tallied the other Clarkton basket in the quarter.

Azillyah McDonald threw in the only Tar Heel basket in the first quarter, and Le’nya Harrell connected for a Lady Panther basket in the second period.

Heustess, Gabby Nealy and Autumn Nye tossed in a basket each for CSD in the second quarter to stretch the halftime lead to 18-4.

Heustess keyed a 14-0 Clarkton third-quarter spurt with three more baskets and a free throw. Smith drained a 3-point shot, and Karli Priest and Nye pumped in a basket each as the margin swelled to 32-4.

Smith and Nealy scored the final Clarkton baskets. Harrell bombed in a 3-point shot and added another basket for Tar Heel in the fourth quarter.

Smith finished with 7 points, and Nealy and Nye tallied 4 points each. Harrell led Tar Heel with 7 points.

The Lady Blue Devils improved to 3-1 with the victory.
