ELIZABETHTOWN – Ariel Cromartie fired in 18 points Thursday to lead Elizabethtown to a 23-10 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over Tar Heel.

The Lady Panthers grabbed an early 5-4 lead as Jasmine Robeson bombed in a 3-point shot, and Leidi Zuniga tossed in a basket. Cromartie and Niyah Wooten threw in baskets for the Lady Cougars.

Tar Heel’s Delijah Smith and Cromartie exchanged baskets in the 2nd quarter that ended with the Lady Panthers on top 7-6.

Cromartie lit up the scoreboard with seven 2nd half baskets as Elizabethtown pulled away with a 17-3 surge. Mariah Ward pumped in a basket for the Lady Cougars, and teammate Tanaisha McKoy sank a foul shot.

Zuniga who led the Tar Heel scoring with 5 points pumped in the only basket for the Lady Panthers in the 2nd half.

Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars improved to 2-1 on the season and will travel to West Columbus Tuesday. Tar Heel, now 0-2, will host East Columbus on February 7th.
